If you are in Russia during the winter months, you had better be ready for the cold. Even if it is freezing outside, it doesn't mean you can't get out and go after a few fish.

Ice Fishing in Russia

Living in Russia for a year was an amazing time. It was also a time of discovery on a scale you can't imagine. As with many cultures, there were vastly different aspects and slight different ones that made it all well worth the time. I enjoy getting out to the lake for a bit of fishing and so do the Russians. This is true even if it is winter.

If it is winter in Russia, we have to be talking about ice fishing. If the Russian winter stopped Hitler in his tracks, you know it is going to be an interesting time out on the lake. Fortunately, the Russians have developed a way of staying warm while sitting on the ice after years and years of study and development.

What is the magic? You guessed it - Vodka! There is saying in Russia when it comes to drinking vodka - warm on the inside and cold on the outside. Vodka is offered up as more or less radiator fluid for your body. I have to admit it works very, very well.

Once you head out to the lake, it is a pretty simple process. Find an area that looks less thick and break out a long, stiff saw. You then start trying to saw, pound and hack a hole in the ice. Yelling helps and is generally encouraged. Vodka is as well. Once the hole is opened, it is time to find some small stools, bait your line and have a seat. Down goes the line and up goes the vodka. Frankly, the fish are pretty safe.

When ice fishing in Russia, the prospect of catching something depends on a number of factors. First and foremost, the type of fish is entirely dependant on the lake you are on. The second issue, however, is more important. How long can you stand to sit there? It is cold like you can't imagine. At 30 degrees below zero, even vodka is not going to keep you warm for long. You can dress with so many layers that you look like the Michelin Man and it still is not going to be a long session.

Do I recommend going ice fishing in Russia? Sure. Once and only once! Then you can say you did it while you are hunting for some aspirin.

A Sales Presentation is Like Fishing

You are invited to speak on the new product your company just launched. You deliver a killer presentation. You receive questions from your audience. You get a standing ovation. Then nothing happens. You didn?t get a lead. You didn?t get a referral.

When you speak at a professional or trade conference you have the opportunity to build brand awareness, expand the database, get a referral, attract another client, or close a sale. However these opportunities often vanish like vapor from a fog, and when the fog clears you walk away thinking you aren?t a very good presenter after all. This is a false assumption and an unfair judgment about your own abilities.

If you aren?t getting the results you hoped for it?s not because you aren?t a good presenter. You aren?t getting the desired results because you haven?t learned how to distinguish a hope from an intention.

You hope you will get interest. You hope to brand your company. You hope to build your database, attract a new client and close a sale. These are your hopes. Unconsciously you have another agenda, your secret intentions. You intend to impress the audience with your knowledge. You intend to get a standing ovation so you can feel warm and fuzzy and tell your friends how you ?nailed the presentation.? You intend to re-live your war stories about the difficult product launch, how you worked with no sleep and how you emerged the hero.

How do I know? I know because I?ve experienced it myself, and I?ve watched people just like you, therefore I know how to identify the red flags. Let me explain.

When you invited your audience to ask questions, (whether that audience is one or one thousand) you missed the buying signal and instead blathered on about ?back stage? stuff.
What is back-stage stuff you ask? Back stage talk is when you start speaking about what is behind the curtain instead of focusing on the performance.You have forgotten you have an audience and the conversation has reverted to your favorite topic?you.You talk about your dream, your company?s history, your great website, your struggles to get the product launched, your process for delivering the product and everything else except solving the customer?s problem.

Come to think of it, giving a good sales presentation is a lot like fishing.The problem happens when you become the fish instead of the fisherman. With a single question your prospect baits the hook, casts the line and you swallow the bait, hook, line and sinker. Without noticing you just got reeled in with your potential customer?s question. You forgot that you are the fisherman, not the fish.

Don?t feel bad. There is a way to become a better fisherman. Here are some steps so that you don?t take the bait.

1. Get clear on the outcome you desire.

2. Transition, answer briefly then redirect the question.

3. Listen to uncover problems.

4. Step up to the next level.

Here?s an example of how it works.

Step one: you become clear that you want to attract new customers. Now that you know your intention, you have to match your actions. This means you stay focused on solving a problem rather than sharing back-stage information and overwhelming to your customer. All your customer cares about is how he benefits from your product.

Step two: when you open for questions, you must recognize the bait. A customer?s question is your opportunity to transition, briefly answer, then redirect the question back to her.For example, your customer asks, ?So tell me how you came up with the idea for this product?? You recognize your initial tendency to want to give a dissertation and instead you use the redirect. You transition, ?I?m so glad you asked, then you answer briefly, ?We noticed customers having problems with?.? then you redirect by asking, ?what kinds of problems do you currently face??

When you redirect, it means you have cast the line and it?s your turn to listen and take notes. After your prospect has finished talking, your presentation at this point needs to be directed toward the next step in the sales process.That may mean an appointment, another presentation, a trial offer, a demonstration or signing the dotted line. Bass fishing has a charming history to fall back on. Starting in the late 18th century, it has continued in its progress till date.

The origin of bass fishing lies in the practice of searching for food among the inhabitants of southern United States. From that time onwards, it has started attracting hordes of fans belonging to all age groups and from different nations. This kind of event today attracts participants from countries such as United States, South Africa, Cuba, Australia as well as most of Europe.

The development of the sonar or the "sound navigation and ranging" and its integration in the bass fishing boat is one of the most applauded innovations. Sonar is a technique that usually uses sound propagation to navigate and detect other water vessels and other forms of life beneath the water.

It is very helpful on the part of the fisherman because most of the bass fishes are traced through this instrument. There is also sonar that is capable of detecting fish even at night time. When they already detected their prey, they start launching their baits in order to catch them.

How to Pick the Best Fishing Guide

So you have decided to take a day or so and do some fishing with a guide. Your chances of catching fish just went up tremendously. But the question now is "how do I locate a good one?". Let me give you some helpful hints on how to pick the best fishing guide for your fishing trip.

You need to know what is important to you for your fishing adventure. Do you want to catch a lot of fish or just one big one?
Are you going by yourself or taking a friend? If taking a friend, ask him or her what they think is important for the trip. Is catching the
fish or the guides friendly and fun personality more important? How far are you willing to drive to meet the guide? Do you have a special
lake or river or spot in mind? As with everything else, just set your goals and then look for the fishing guide who can best meet your goals.

The easiest way to find a good fishing guide is by looking in the fishing directories based on where you will be fishing. There are some
good sites you should look at like BlueSportFishing.com, FishingLinks.org, Charternet.com and 1FGHP.com. These will have the guides listed by state and sometimes listed by lake, river or town. This will give you a quick way to scan the fishing guides in the area and checkout their websites.

Check out the fishing guides' website to see what it says about them. The site should give you specifics on areas fished, fishing reports, rates and experience. If the site has good client information for you then I would say that reflects on the guides professionalism and would be an indicator that they take this business very seriously. If the site isn't very good... you can determine if that is important to you or not.

Send an email quickly stating what kind of fishing you are considering and the specific dates you are available. This will give him an idea of what you want and when. Then he will reply back or call you.

When you are on the phone with the guide, remember you are hiring a professional fisherman. Be respectful and considerate and expect
the same. If he speaks down to you or is very gruff, that is probably the least it will be on the trip. Ask your questions and just as
important tell him about you. Hopefully the conversation is fun and exciting. As far as getting references, I don't agree with that much.
Have you ever gave someone a reference that was bad? Of course not. Talk to them and get as much information and insight as you can in the conversation. Then make a decision.

So you have talked to a few and selected your guide. Keep him informed if anything changes pertaining to your trip. Remember, this isn't just fishing with this person, this is how they make their living. Treat him like you would want to be treated. Get clear up front on his bad weather or cancellation policies. Don't surprise the guide and then be surprised when you don't get a full refund.

know it. Give him/her a tip over the rate. Then just as helpful, tell your friends about your guide and the great trip you had. He is a
