Mexico's Lake El Salto Is A Bass Fishing Heaven - Follow These Tips To Your Next Double Digit Catch!

In the bass fishing world, a trip to Mexico is a must and if you want to almost guarantee yourself a certain catch, then Lake El Salto should be your first port of call. Why? Well, Lake El Salto has developed a reputation as just about the best bass fishing lake in the world, and for good reason!

Bass was introduced to El Salto over two decades ago and the result, a lake full of fish ready to be caught! Apart from being one of the most picturesque locations you'll come across, Lake El Salto, situated within close proximity to Mazatlan and close to the Sierra Madre mountain range, has an ideal temperature range and all the right ingredients for bass to flourish. And flourish they have!

El Salto's Monsters

There's an old saying... size matters and El Salto's reputation for producing monster bass is one good reason why anglers flock there in droves across the border from the US. There is a strong emphasis on trophy fishing; being able to tell your buddies you "snagged" the big one and better still, producing the photo proof of your catch.

The season at El Salto runs for approximately nine months. It officially "casts off" on October 1st. and runs right through until the end of June. This period produces a great number of visiting anglers all after their trophy catch. Experts will tell you the best time to land a monster is following the spawning season which usually takes place from December through until March. The "fish tale" giants have usually been landed following the big spawn from April through until season close at June's end.

El Salto Tours

There is a term used in bass fishing which is simply double digit. It's music to the ears of most serious anglers because landing a double digit bass will land you short term fame and bragging rights. Best of all, you'll forever have the licence to "spin the yarn" about the time you hooked a double digit bass in Mexico, provided you've kept the photo, of course!

Visitors are always welcome at Lake El Salto and there are several fishing tour companies which provide either a sole El Sato experience or include it as part of a fishing itinerary. As an example, a two day package would set you back about $500 and the value you receive is excellent. All meals, transport to the lake and back to your accomodation which is also usually included in the price, drinks and boat guides who are conversant in both english and spanish and not to mention your fishing license. That's a pretty good deal in anyone's language.

Lake El Salto is a bass fishing heaven. In fact, in 2002, a fish nearing 20 pounds was landed on the lake. It's reputation as a breeding ground for monsters continues to grow.

Bass Fishing - Bigger The Knowledge The BIGGER The FISH

Why is it so important to have more knowledge under your belt when bass fishing, simple, more fish?
Is your catch of bass becoming less on every fishing trip, did you ever wonder that the bait you are using is not to the fishes liking or could it be your choice of location to catch a whopper be the wrong speck.

If just starting out to join in the fun of bass fishing then it is important that you fully understand the needs on how to bait. Which bait to use - where are the best locations for bass fishing. The bigger your knowledge the bigger the fish.

Bass Fishing is practised by anglers who claim a sense of satisfaction when the fish start to bite. To become successful in this type of venture then you have to consider two things, the understanding of how to locate bass and to learn all there is to know about different techniques, presentations, and baits. All this information can be found in fishing manuals. Collect as much knowledge as you can from other anglers who are more familiar with the sport.

Just to know how to read a map will be beneficial when locating bass, the most practical places to search for lively Bass is after cold fronts and early spring. Weather conditions can either hamper or go in your favour when fishing for bass. If you are familiar with your waters then this will help a great deal in locating the best place to cast your rod. Water depth and temperature is a vital element that you need to be aware of because the depth or hollowness of the water will decipher if this part of the river - stream is where the bass are biting.

A consistent bass angler does more than just jump in his/her boat and cast bait. That is why fishing tournaments are so popular -competitive and fulfilling to all who take part in these contests.

There is much more than meets the eye behind this sport. Lake maps, what are they you ask, well there are two types; most anglers refer to them as the Hot Spot map and the Topographical. These route finders are different; the Topo outlines more in detail where as the Hot Spot map displays the best fishing locations.
Vegetation areas - Irregular contours -Shallow water close to deep water areas - Points and point drops are main issues to look for when it comes to locating bass on any given waters.
To become as popular as the sport it self then, you have to think like the fish. I know this may sound insane, but you have to choose a quiet part of the stream or lake away from jet skis, kiddies paddling or playful dogs when fishing for bass. Any excitement may upset the apple cart. If you were the fish would you stick around with all the commotion above water?
